About 64,000 children in Louisiana are uninsured, and more than 78 percent of them are eligible for health insurance at little or no cost, according to the state Department of Health and Hospitals.

In an effort to reduce the number of uninsured children, a new national Robert Wood Johnson Foundation program, Maximizing Enrollment for Kids, will provide funding and technical support to DHH, which manages Louisiana Medicaid and the Louisiana Children's Health Insurance Program known as LaCHIP.
