The Consumers Union, along with our partners American Institutes for Research (AIR) and the University of Maryland, just released a report entitled “Measuring Health Insurance Literacy: A Call to Action."

As consumers we know that we struggle to understand how to use health insurance.  These health insurance difficulities take a toll on consumers' health and finanical well-being, and have cost implications for health plans and the nation.

This report kicks off a project to develop a precise language for describing what is difficult for consumers about health insurance.  By developing a “common language” — in the form of a widely-accepted health insurance literacy measure—The Consumers Union, in partnership with AIR and the Univeristy of Maryland can bring precision to research efforts and policy discussions.
